With that said...I heard the window opening upstairs so I went up to check it out. When I arrived in the office I found the window opened all the way with Adam standing ON the window sill looking down. The other kids were gathered around him looking out the window.
I walk in slowly and quietly so as not to startle Adam and cause him to fall out.
The following conversation takes place:
Adam: I'm up high. If I fell out I'd diiiie.
Lauren: Yeah, if you fell out you'd die.
I carefully raise the blinds that are pinning Adam against the screen of the open window and put my arm around his waist and pull him out of the window.
Me: Adam, you can't stand in open windows because if you fell out you would get really, really hurt and could die.
Adam: I know, Mom, that's what I was just telling them.
Hmmm. Maybe the person who's gonna die is me!
Oh my gosh! I think my heart would have hit the floor! I’m impressed you handled it so well!
Oh my GOODNESS!! That is crazy! Good thing you heard the window open huh?
That’s wild that he told Lauren he would die. It’s amazing that they have no concept of what that really means. And so scary.
Somehow I don’t think he quite understands the concept of “dying” quite yet… Funny story though. Was he looking to break both legs at once by any chance? He’s about due for it.
Thank you for rescuing my grandson. Flight lessons can be expensive. Good thinking being calm.
I encouraged Adam to get down from the kitchen windowsill once.. he may have been practiced and confident tackling the upstairs. According to mom’s in my area, many kids are relaxed and they bounce on second-story landings, to no harm. Adam is impressive, to say the least. I felt chills all the way to my toes!
WOW! You really did handle that well.
You know, I was thinking…
I think they make those lock-things that only allow the window to open so far. Maybe you should check into that for some peace of mind.
Also,I decided that these are the very examples of why moms get a bad rap for being paranoid or overprotective! Kids that nearly give us heartattacks!
We bought those for our other windows, Jill, but somehow forgot that one window. We’ve already corrected the problem.
